Add Custom Organization Unit in M365
Adding a custom organization unit (OU) within INKY requires an INKY admin to setup. It will allow specific settings for a group of recipients chosen based on your qualifications within a custom M365 transport rule.
There are two default OUs added by INKY, the “default” and “silent”, where default is based on the settings you see in the dashboard and silent is a way to silent process mail and not apply any markings.
To add a custom OU, within M365, you can follow the below steps:
Navigate to https://admin.exchange.microsoft.com/#/transportrules
Notice the current two rules for Organization Units
IPW Organization Unit - Silent and IPW Organization Unit
.Select either of those rules and then select Duplicate
Edit the settings to make a new qualification that you want, then apply the appropriate value within the X-Inky-OU section
For example: This rule qualifies a new group in the apply rule section callednobanner@polvocapital.com
and the OU being used isnobanner
.Select Make copy then Duplicate.
Refresh the page and the rule would be created in a disabled state but just below the duplicated rule.
You’ll want to move the rule to be the last of the “IPW Organizational Unit” rule and enable the rule so it looks like the below picture.
This process ensures that if you’re in multiple groups that match an OU, being in the rule that runs last will overwrite the current OU.
The qualifications for the “apply this rule if” in the M365 transport rule can be whatever you want, using a group is a simple way to do it but there’s are plenty you could utilize.
The OU value will be provided by INKY if you ask for a custom setting.
